Chaplaincy

School Chaplain

At Chapel Hill, our school Chaplain is a friendly and safe person for students to connect with. She provides a listening ear, a caring presence and a helping hand for children in their daily lives.

Chaplaincy aims to contribute to the students’ overall welfare and social and emotional wellbeing, by providing student mentoring, by helping children to feel special and valued as individuals and by fostering a supportive, school community. This is done through a network of positive relationships and partnerships with the wider community.

Our Chaplain works closely with other members of the school’s student support services team.

Chaplains are present in schools at the invitation of the Principal, in consultation with the local community and with the support of the P&C. The chaplaincy service is available to everyone in the school community.

Meet the Chapel Hill State School Chaplain…

Hello, my name is Abigail So, but I usually go by Abi. I have just started at CHSS and look forward to meeting everyone.

I have a degree in Psychology and I have done further studies in Counselling. I have worked with children for over 5 years through teaching, counselling and volunteer work and have enjoyed every minute of it.

I am here to support students through:

Pastoral Care: being a support to students, parents or staff struggling with difficulties such as anxiety, grief, relationships and friendship issues or family breakdowns.

Social skills programs such as Rock and Water which helps develop social and emotional skills in children.

I will be attending and supporting school events including sports day, assemblies, P&C meetings, excursions, committee meetings, graduation and other special events.

Students may request to meet with me on an individual basis for support. Parental consent will be required and will be reported upon in accordance with Education Queensland legislation and policy.

I am at school Mondays and Tuesdays. If you would like to contact me please feel free to contact me through the school on (07) 38714888 or email me at aso0@eq.edu.au.

I look forward to meeting you and please do not hesitate to come say hi if you see me.

Will my child be involved?

The chaplaincy program is entirely voluntary and students choose whether or not they want to be part of the activities that are offered. Parents will be consulted if their child wishes to be involved in on going one-to-one meetings with the chaplain or in any program or group involving spiritual, religious or ethical content. Parents have the right to refuse permission for their child to be involved in any Chaplaincy activity or event.
