IGNITE & Mathematics Extension Program
IGNITE
The IGNITE program has been developed to cater for the needs of students who display significantly above average achievement, and a keen interest, in the STEM fields.
The selection process is as follows:
Students in Years 3 and 4 are selected by classroom teachers, using both achievement and interest as criteria.
Students in Years 5 and 6 apply for the IGNITE terms in which they wish to participate. Applications often exceed places available, so staff use achievement and interest as criteria to make the selection.
A range of units are offered in the IGNITE before-class sessions throughout the year. For example:
Computational and algorithmic thinking
Scientific investigations
Digital coding
Creating musical circuitry
Keyboard mimicking
Engagement in a suite of local, national and international competitions
Mathematics Extension Program
Mathematics IGNITE Program Year 5 & 6 (MIPY5), (MIPY6)
The Mathematics IGNITE program has been developed to cater specifically for highly capable mathematicians at Chapel Hill State School.
Students sit for a selection test and work with a class of fellow students in daily mathematics enrichment sessions. The sessions engage students in complex, faster paced, compacted Australian Mathematics Curriculum.
We have specialist Mathematics Enrichment Teachers who host the sessions and provide a wide range of opportunities to nurture the students’ mathematical depth and breadth of understanding.
